Glen Dale "Swanny" Swanson - Class Of 1945

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, MARCH 14, 2011:

Glen Dale "Swanny" Swanson, 83 of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Monticello, IN, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County. He was born on August 15, 1927 in Boone, IA to Albert Swanson and Margaret (Wood) Swanson Bell. Swanny attended Hobart High School and worked for NIPSCO as a control room operator for 30 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Monticello American Legion, and served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1945 until 1953. Swanny enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood with the boys. He was an avid Colts fan and enjoyed playing pinochle with friends at the Rittenhouse.

On April 11, 1947 in Hobart he married Laura Marie Woods, who survives along with three children: Steven (Jacqueline) Swanson of LaPorte, IN, Debra (David) Christy of Valparaiso, and Diane (Robert) Lane of Monticello; five siblings: Lorraine Donley of Chesterton, IN, Albert (Norma) Swanson of Crown Point, IN and Leo (Anna Belle) Swanson of Norfolk, VA; sister-in-law, Catherine (Theodore) Sorrick; brother-in- law, William (Dorothy) Woods; eight grandchildren: Tammy (Michael) Micciche of Valparaiso, Lisa (Ryan) Booth of Westville, IN, Eric (Melissa) Christy of Indianapolis, IN, Nicholas (Allison) Swanson of LaPorte, IN, Joshua (Amanda) Lane of Burnettsville, IN, Rob Lane of Monticello, Jonathan Lane of Lafayette, and Derek Lane of Monticello; one great granddaughter; and nine great grandsons. Swanny was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Anna Mae Neier Peacock.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. CST at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. CST until the time of service.
