GERALD AUGUST KEGEBEIN SR. Hobart, Indiana Age 76, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006. He was a lifelong Hobart resident and retired from Local 697 where he worked as an electrician. He was the founder of the Hobart Democratic Club and a member of Local Union 697 since 1956. He was the Hobart electrical inspector from 1976-1982, the Democratic Precinct Committeeman since 1971. Gerald was a member of the American Legion Post 54 since 1971 where he served as Commander for 3 years, First Vice Commander and Finance Officer. He was a charter member of the Howlin Mad Detachment of the Marine Corps League where he also served as finance officer. Gerald was also a member of the Hobart City Improvement Committee.

He is survived by: his wife, June (nee Swanson) of Hobart; son, Gerald A. (Cynthia) Kegebein Jr. of Hobart; 3 step-children, Debra Opolski of Demotte, Joanne (Paul) Oros of Hobart, John (Kathy White) Broker of Green Bay, WI; 2 brothers, Larry (late Fran) Kegebein, Terry (Charlotte Smith) Kegebein both of Hobart; 2 sisters-in-law, Dee Kegebein of Hobart, Ruth Kegebein of Miller; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; special brother-in-law, Ralph Kennedy; special nephew, David Gilarski; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; parents, Emil and Elaine Kegebein; 2 brothers, Albert and Charles Kegebein; cousin, George Kegebein; and nephew, Wayne Kegebein. 

Memorials may be made to the Indiana State Veterans Home. Funeral services are Thursday, April 20, 2006, 12 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary S. Nagy officiating. Burial will follow at Hobart Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, April 19, 2006 from 4 to 9 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. American Legion service and a 7 p.m. Marine Corps League service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
