OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES:
Charles R. Hallas, Sr. "Chuck", 59, of Hobart, passed away in St. Mary Medical Center on Friday, August 14, 1998. Chuck was a 1957 graduate of Hobart High School. He attended Whittenberg University and the University of Wisconsin. He also received an honorary degree from the University of Beging in China. He was a past member of the Order of DeMoLay; a member of Mystic Shrine, Orak Temple, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; member of M.L. McClelland Lodge #357; F.&A.M. He served as Ambassador to the Philippine Lodges; he was retired from U.S. X. U.E.C. in 1997. Chuck was a Vietnam veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League. An employee of Applied Computer Techniques, Hobart. Chuck has touched the lives of many people all over the world through his travels. No task was every too great and he will be sadly missed by everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Dorothy Hallas, and his sister, Jean Ehrhardt. Survived by loving wife of 34 years, Gloria P. (nee Adams) Hallas of Hobart; three children, Kelli (Scott) Hallas-Stensland of Minnesota, "Rich" Charles R. (Stacy) Hallas, Jr. of Chesterton and Marci (Kevin) Mitchell of Hobart; two grandchildren, Sawyer Sudac Hallas and Alexa Nicole Mitchell; loving dog, "Lizzie"; two brothers, James (Ellen) Hallas of Wisconsin and Michael Hallas of Crawfordsville, Indiana; special in-laws, Alex and Mary Adams; sister-in-law, Elaine (Charles) Averill of Bass Lake; many lovng nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
Funeral services Monday, August 17, 1998 at 10 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, Hobart, (corner of Rt 51 and 7th Street), Rev. Bruce Bigelow officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends may call at the Burns Funeral Home, Hobart on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. M.L.McClelland Lodge #357 will hold Masonic Services on Sunday at 7 p.m.
