Louis Greenspan - Class Of 1934

OBITUARY FROM WASHINGTON POST, MAY 10., 2005:

GREENSPAN, LOUIS (Age 89), of Blue Ridge Shores, passed away on May 5, 2005. While in Hobart High School in Indiana, he was a two time National Clarinet Champion. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving over 29 years. He played clarinet for the U.S. Army Band in Washington, DC, where he was the principal clarinet soloist. In later years, he played in the Charlottesville Municipal Band. He was an avid golfer at Woodberry Forest Golf Course and enjoyed teaching both golf and the clarinet. His hobbies included playing pker, pool and bass fishing.

He is preced in death by his wife, Eva Vertes Greenspan and two daughters, Barbara Jane Ford and Cheryl Mae Schoenes. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Kirtz and Janet Alvis and her husband, Jim; four grandchildren, a brother, Izzie Greenspan; a sister, Joyce Belkov; and two sons-in-law, John Ford and Bruce Schoenes; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was devpted to his family and will be missed by his many friends.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlottesville Municipal Band, 1119 5th St., S.W., Charlottesville, VA 22902. WOODWARD FUNERAL HOME, Louisa, VA is handling arrangements.
