Robert Robbins - Class Of 1938

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, APRIL 5, 2009:

Robert Robbins, age 88, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at his home. Robert was born on August 23, 1920 in Gary, IN to Louis M. and Mary (Jillson) Robbins. He was married to Loretta Rose Sczerba, who preceded him in death in January, 2000.

Robert is survived by three children, Robert (Karen) Robbins, Valparaiso, IN, Judith Aragon of Valparaiso, IN and Linda (Gary) Hrivnak of Arlington Heights, IL; three granddaughters, Leslie (James) Day, Jennifer Hrivnak and Tyler Aragon; and one great-grandson, Jonathan Day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Robbins; wife, Loretta Robbins; and sister, Mildred Nelson.

Robert was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Hobart High School. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Robert worked for Ironworkers Local #395 until retiring in 1978, and also implemented the apprentice program for the Ironworkers Local #395 and served as an instructor. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during World War II. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. All of his family, friends and neighbors will miss him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 356 W. 700 N., Valparaiso, IN, with Rev. Douglas Mayer officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage, IN. www.EE-FH.com.
