Harley Sears - Class Of 1945

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, AUGUST 24, 2008:

HARLEY I. SEARS Valparaiso, Indiana Age 81, a longtime resident of northwest Indiana, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008. He was born on March 3, 1927, in Hobart, Indiana, the son of Harry and Lorena Sears. Harley was a graduate of Hobart High School and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He also joined the naval reserves after the service. Harley was married to LaVeda Love on September 29, 1950, in Gary, IN. He worked as a truck driver for American Bridge for over 25 years. Harley was a member of the Central Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Hobart V.F.W. # 5365. Harley also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and yard work. As a teenager Harley also became the Indiana State Marbles Champion.

Harley is survived by his loving family; daughters, Sherra (Gerald) Krajcir, South Haven, and Shirley Massey, Valparaiso; grandchildren David Sears, Heather (Jessie) Hauser, Lorri Nelson, Kathy Fry, Rhonda (Guy) Fulkerson, Vicki Nelson, Larry (Angela) Massey, and Britt Watson; great-grandchildren, Sara, Megan, Jordan, Tyler, Trey, Josh, Kylie, Collin, Holley, Hanna, Jessica, and Erica, & great-great granddaughter, Madison; daughter-in-law, Beth Sears; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving family and dear friends. Harley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife LaVeda Sears, son Dale Sears, son David Sears, son-in-law Larry Massey, 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and his best buddy his dog Clint.

A visitation for Harley Sears will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Rees Funeral Home - Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A V.F.W. memorial service will be offered at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. A funeral service for Harley Sears will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Rees Funeral Home with Pastor Lonnie Lawson, officiating. Cremation will follow.
