Dean Edward Tilley (Teacher)

OBITUARY FROM FORT LAUDERDALE SUN-SENTINEL, JULY 4, 2002:

Dean Edward Tilley died on July 1, 2002 at his home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was 51 years old and formerly of Brazil. Mr. Tilley was born in Clay County Hospital on January 9, 1951. He was the son of Maurice C. and Ruth S. Tilley. His maternal grandparents were Anna and Francis H. Salin. His paternal grandparents were Estella and Andrew F. Tilley. On April 15, 1984 he married Amanda Haffner, of London, England, in Ft. Lauderdale. They have two children Dylan Charles Tilley, who is 16 and Brittany Salin Tilley who is 11. Mr. Tilley attended Staunton High School through his sophomore year. He transferred to Brazil High School in order to play football, graduating in 1969, and earned a B.S. degree in Science from Indiana State University in 1973. He enjoyed teaching science at Hobart High School prior to moving to south Florida in the late 1970s. Mr. Tilley was a talented musician who was proficient on the piano, with both acoustic and electric guitar and on the harmonica. He was a professional photographer. He had a life-long interest in oceanography, loved the Atlantic Ocean, the beach and both sail and power boating. He was a skilled navigator who was comfortable in open water. Mr. Tilley was a devoted father who enjoyed family reunions. He enjoyed traveling and was looking forward to a European trip in late July with his family.

Survivors include his children, Brittany Salin Tilley and Dylan Charles Tilley; the mother of his children, Amanda Haffner Tilley; his mother, Ruth S. Tilley; a brother, John P. Tilley and his wife Suzie W. Tilley; a nephew, John C. Tilley; and a niece, Dr. Ann E. Tilley. He is also survived by several cousins, aunts and uncles. Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by his father, Maurice C. Tilley.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday at French Funeral Home with the Reverend Thomas Hess officiating. Interment is at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 till 8 pm Friday evening and 1 hour before the service Saturday morning.
