New Richmond's building inspector John Frisco, 56, died Friday following a fishing accident in northwestern Wisconsin.
New Richmond’s building inspector and zoning administrator John Frisco, 56, died Friday following a fishing accident in northwestern Wisconsin. According to Washburn County Sheriff’s officials, Frisco, a rural Clear Lake resident, drowned after his kayak capsized on Shell Lake while he was fishing.
Washburn County 911 received a call just after 1 p.m. Friday of a man calling for help from a sinking boat. His body was later pulled from the lake. “We are all in a state of shock,” said Mayor Fred Horne. “Obviously our staff is taking it very hard. He’s going to be missed very, very much.”
Horne called Frisco a valuable employee who saved the city a great deal of money by working on projects and agreeing to do extra maintenance as a way to cut costs. “He was very talented,” Horne said. “He was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.”
City Administrator Dennis Horner said everyone will miss Frisco and his “terrific sense of humor.” “It’s a devastating and tragic loss for the city,” Horner said. “John was a remarkable person. He gave so much to many people and asked for nothing in return. He was well-respected by all.”
Frisco has worked in New Richmond for about six years. He previously worked for the city of Amery.
There will be no funeral services for Frisco because his will requested that no services be held. A college fund is being set up at Bremer Bank for Frisco’s sons. The branches in New Richmond, Amery and Deer Park will accept donations to the fund beginning Thursday.
