Alice Pyatt (Barrett) - Class Of 1949

OBITUARY FROM (LEHIGH, FL) NEWS-PRESS, APRIL 17, 2014:

Alice (Pyatt) Barrett, age 82, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Cypress Cove, Fort Myers, FL. Alice was born on March 27, 1932 in Gary, IN, a daughter to Attorney Raymond and Margaret (Fisher) Pyatt. She graduated from Hobart High School in Indiana in 1949 and then received a B.S. degree from Ball State Teachers College in 1953. After earning credits in education courses at the University of Hawaii, she received her M.S. degree in education from Indiana University in 1958. Alice was a member of Chi Omega sorority and continued to be active in the alumnae group and Panhellenic in her years after college. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an international honorary educational society) and continued active membership throughout her life. Alice taught elementary education in three Indiana schools, and also did substitute teaching in the Lee County Schools, mostly at Orangewood School, after her retirement.

In 1962, Alice married Max Barrett, son of a pioneer family in Fort Myers, FL and he preceded her in death in 2002. Traveling and boating were their favorite recreational activities. Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, FL where she held offices of elder, deacon and synod commissioner during her years of service and enjoyed participating in the church orchestra. After moving to Cypress Cove, she attended the church services there also. Alice was an avid dog lover all of her life and leaves behind her precious dog, Molly.

Survivors include many cousins from Indiana, Illinois and Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Nancy Gilliam.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church,2438 Second Street, Fort Myers, FL on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Paul DeYoung officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Myers, FL.
