Herbert "Herb" Jones - Class Of 1942

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, AUGUST 14, 2014:

Herbert Jones, 90, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014. He was born July 13, 1924 in Gary, IN to Herbert T. Sr. and Mildred (Bush) Jones. After graduating midterm from Hobart High School, Herb enlisted and served as an Army Staff Sargent for the 504 AAA Gun Battalion during WWII. He received an honorable discharge with several medals for his efforts during the war. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary (Loggie) Jones on June 8, 1946. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart, as well as the American Legion Post 94 in Valparaiso, and was an avid fisherman. Herb eventually retired from the steel industry where he was a supervisor.

During their 68 years together, Herb and Mary had four children: Dr. H. Alan Jones of Munster, Bruce (Jane) Jones of Valparaiso, Susan White of Valparaiso, and Nancy (Alan) Naggatz of Valparaiso. Their family grew to include 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren all of whom survive and knew and loved him as "Pa". Herb is also survived by his brother Gene Jones of Santa Monica, CA and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Stewart, and brother, Robert Jones. Herb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose memory is now a treasure.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, a committal service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County. MoellerFuneralHome.com.
