Edith was born in Hobart, Ind., on Sept. 19, 1914. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in psychology. In 1937 she married Ben Siebenthal and after World War II, the couple settled in Sacramento, Calif., where prior Lt. Colonel Siebenthal became a practicing pediatrician.

As Dr. Siebenthal pursued his career of 28 years as a practicing pediatrician, Edith became a Board of Directors member of The Sacramento Children's Home. She was also a docent for the Crocker Art Gallery and was responsible for new acquisitions and other duties for 20 years.

Edith had three children - two adopted, one biological, all loved equally by this wonderful woman. In 1962 Edith and Ben put both careers on hold and took the family to Lahore, Pakistan, where the family lived for six months while Ben and Edith were volunteers at The United Christian Hospital, pretty much a well baby clinic.

The vision of a woman born in the early 1900s to take her family half way around the world and give them a world view, unlike any child could imagine, was unprecedented for her age and time. She will be missed so much! She passed on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 6:36 p.m. She is survived by Lane and Sharon Siebenthal of Placerville, Calif., Robert and Lita Siebenthal of Sacramento, Calif.; Ken and Anne Beasley of Herndon, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
