CLAUDE F. OWENS

Claude F. Owens, 79, Crown Point, died Thursday. He was a former resident of Hobart and had lived in Crown Point for three years. He was the son of Marion and Myrtle Owens.

He retired in 1977 as general supervisor of the gas department of NIPSCO after 47 years of service. He had been a member of the Hobart First United Methodist Church for 60 years. He was a volunteer at St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Room for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian T. Owens; two sons, Ethan E. Owens of Wichita, Kan., and Rex A. Owens of Madison, Wisc.; a daughter, Wanda Helm of Elwood; a brother, Burl Owens of Arizona; three sisters, Thelma Mansfield and Vivian Gifford, both of Rockford, Ill., and Merrivale Herbert of Loves Park, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Treadway.

Services were today at the Hobart First United Methodist Church. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery.
