OBITUARY FROM HERALD-TRIBUNE (SARASOTA, FL), MAY 24, 2024:
Robert “Bob” Stanford Zimny, 84, of Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on May 19, 2024, in Lady Lake.
Bob was born in Gary, Indiana to Walter and Julia (Nadel) Zimny on July 2, 1939. He graduated from Hobart High School in Hobart, Indiana in 1957. He served in the Air Force as a Pilot Systems Repairman and worked in the early assembly of the missile silo. He married Carolyn Sue Epperson on July 22, 1967, in Hobart, Indiana. Together, he and his wife successfully managed Epperson’s Furniture Store in both Hobart and Crown Point, Indiana until they moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1977. In Florida, he was a National Insurance Marketer for National Insurance Network, a company he and his wife have proudly owned for 40 years.
In his lifetime, he was internationally known in the Barbershop Quartet community as a member of the award-winning Quartet “Saturday’s Heroes.” Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed living in the mountains, and spending time with his large family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Julia (Nadel) Zimny, sister Sydell Rangeloff, and brother Walter “Mick” Zimny.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Carolyn Sue Epperson Zimny, his children Robert Zimny II, Ciree (Tony) Traver, David Zimny, Cheryl Zimny, Jennifer Zimny, and Denise (Kevin) Angell, his brother Marshall Zimny, sisters Jacquelyn Essig and Zelda “Babe” Arcuri, grandchildren Cassaundra, Rob, Summer, Dylan, Carly, Tyler, Grant, Kyle, Austin, Nick, and Chris and great grandchildren Luca and Mia.
Celebration of Life will be June 8, 2024, from 1-4 p.m. at 175 1st St S in St. Petersburg, Florida 33701.
