MERLE F. ANDERSON

NEWPORT NEWS – Merle Francis Anderson, 71, a Gary, Ind., native and a Peninsula resident for 34 years, died Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Mr. Anderson, who received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Purdue University, retired in 1988 from NASA after 25 years as a computer specialist.

He was a charter member and past president of the Peninsula-Tidewater Chapter, Data Processing Management Association and a former member of Masonic Lodge 815 in Chicago, Ill.

Survived by two daughters, Barbara Lynn Anderson of Newport News and Deborah Lee Anderson of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mary E. Anderson of Washington; and a brother, John Harold Anderson of West Lafayette, Ind.

Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home. Graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Cemetery by the Rev. Mike Hargreaves.
