Norine Frederick (Beckner) - Class Of 1939

Norine E. Beckner (Frederick), age 94, a lifelong resident of Hobart, Indiana passed away October 3, 2016. She was born November 16, 1921 in Gary, Indiana, the only child of Willard D. and Edna (Pierce) Frederick. On December 28, 1942, she married her beloved husband Eugene L. Beckner who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Carl (Anita) Beckner of Grayslake, Il; daughter, Amy (late James) Mears of Kouts; grandchildren Grace Beckner of Grayslake, IL; Kimberly (Jason) Fikes of Jasper, AL; George (Kelly) Porumb of Moline, IL; Jon (Delesia) Zarych of Gary, Ryan Zarych of Plymouth; great grandchildren, Tyler and Cory Fikes; Stephanie (TJ) Pentland; Myles and Maddalyn Porumb; Cathern, Mellisa and Delesia Zarych; great great grandchildren Coy Pentland; nephew, Dennis (Ann) Beckner of Plymouth, MN; nieces, Dawn (Darrell) Rule of Carmel; Rebecca (Gerald) Funk of Valparaiso, and many wonderful friends and unforgettable former students.

Norine was a life long student of the piano and a dedicated piano teacher who started teaching at age 15 and taught until she was 85. She taught 680 pupils during this time. Some became very accomplished, which she was very proud of. She studied under Mrs Mildred Eddie of Michigan City. She also studied at the Cosmopolitan School of Music in Chicago, and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. She loved to dance, travel, cook, and garden. She was a long time member of the Formal Dinner Dance Club. She was also a member of the Vivians Society of Hobart Elks and a long time member of The First United Methodist Church in Hobart.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Hobart, 654 East 4th Street, Hobart, IN 46342. She will be laid to rest in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Hobart. Memorials preference is the First United Methodist Church of Hobart and the Hobart Historical Society.
