Eva Rae (Johnson) Dietrich, of St. Anne, passed away Thursday (July 25, 2013) at 89 years old. Entombment will occur at All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made for family wishes.
Eva Rae was born May 28, 1924, in Kankakee, to Charles Arthur and Dayle (Reynolds) Johnson. She was the oldest of three children, and the only daughter. She and her family moved various times throughout her childhood, including Joliet, Ill., and Hobart, Ind. Eva Rae married the love of her life, Bryce Dietrich, on Jan. 31, 1948, a year and a half after spotting each other at the local roller rink. Their life long love story, and unfailing commitment to each other was admired by all who knew them. Their love only grew through the birth of their two children. Though originally a city girl, Eva Rae could regularly be found cooking large meals for family members and the hired men at the farm. After retirement, Eva and Bryce spent the winters in Florida for more than 20 years. She found great joy in the choir in which she participated and directed in their Florida community.
Eva Rae will be lovingly remembered by many for her extravagant generosity with her resources and her time, her beautiful voice with which she blessed countless numbers of people, her selfless love for her family, her gentle spirit, her contagious laugh, and her faith in Jesus. Words only begin to express how much she will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bryce Dietrich; her brother, Charles Johnson; and her infant daughter, Judy Dietrich.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Phil) Egebrecht, of West Chicago; her son, Gary (Karen) Dietrich, of Bourbonnais; and Johnny Newsom, of Woodland, Calif. whom they raised throughout his adolescent years. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erika (Darrin) Schultz, Lindsey (Mark) Meyers, Brandon (Kathryn) Dietrich, Tiffany Dietrich and her fiancé, Joshua DeRocco, Kristine Egebrecht, Nathan Dietrich; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Austin (Nancy) Johnson, of Kankakee; two sisters in- law, Lorraine Johnson, of Kankakee, and Isabelle Forestier, of St. Anne; and her goddaughter, Tamara (Johnson) Brown.
