Marian Bodine (Pence) - Class Of 1946

OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE, FEBRUARY 4, 2018:
 
Marian A. Pence, 89,of Winamac, formerly of Hobart, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, in Winamac, Indiana. Marian was born August 19, 1928 in Hobart, IN, where she lived most of her life. After graduating from Hobart High School in 1946, she married Everett "Sam" Pence in 1948. Active in her community, she was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary #54, Cub Scout leader, a Hobart Brickie band mom and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church's Ruth Circle. She was also active at the Hobart St. Mary's Cardiac Rehabilitation. For many years, she and Sam were snowbirds who spent their winters in Englewood, Florida, and the rest of the year in the brick house he built for her in Hobart. Marian's true passion was her family. She loved keeping up with her children and grandchildren and shared her commitment to volunteerism and her love of making things- knitting, crocheting, and sewing- with all of them. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, music, and cheering on various Chicago sports teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, the Bulls and the Cubs. Marian loved entertaining on the patio outside her home, and she will be missed by her many friends and family.
 
She was preceded in death by Everett "Sam" Pence, her husband of 58 years; her sons: Martin (in infancy), Mark, and Joel; one grandson, Samuel Kuenn. Marian is survived by her daughter, Judy (Kelly) Kuenn; granddaughters: Stephanie (Keith Phipps) Kuenn, Nicole Pence, and Debi (Tim) Van Deraa; grandsons: Chuck Bennett and Kyle Kuenn; great-granddaughter, Hannah Phipps; daughter-in- law, Vickie Lewis-Pence; sister-in-law, Carol Cusumano; nieces; and other relatives.
 
Friends may visit with Marian's family on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., Pastor Gary Nagy officiating, at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marian's name to the American Heart Association.
