George Luke, Sr. - Class Of 1946

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE, AUGUST 22, 2016:

George H. Luke Sr., age 89 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Monday, August 22, 2016. He was born on August 15, 1927 in Hobart, Indiana to the late Ray and Martha Luke. He loved playing baseball and softball and was a member of the Schmaltze’s team in Crown Point. He also played in numerous other leagues and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. George graduated from Hobart High School in 1946 and went on to work as a Carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Local Union # 1005. He was a family man and loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
 
He is survived by two sons, Dean A. Luke of Hobart, IN; George H. Luke Jr. (Brenda Kish) of Hobart, IN; one daughter, Martha A. Luke (Ernie Brunty) of Valparaiso, IN; one son-in-law, Brian Mehl of Valparaiso, IN; two brothers, Harry Luke of Hobart, IN; Don Luke (Nancy Ferris) of Hobart, IN; four grandchildren, Matthew M. (Olivia) Luke, Lauren L. Luke, Nicholas and Nancy Mehl, three great-grandchildren, Hunter Mehl, Broderick Luke, Evander Luke.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Luke (nee Auld), one daughter, Becky Mehl, two brothers, Robert and Ralph Luke, and one sister, Dorothy Jones.
 
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
