Harold Lloyd Meeks
June 16, 1928 ~ December 12, 2012

I am the vine and you are the branches." John 15:5.

Harold Lloyd Meeks, 84, born June 16, 1928 in West Frankfort, IL, beloved husband of Joan McDonald Meeks, died in Port Charlotte, Florida on December 12, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery and Lola Meeks, brother Paul, sisters June and Joann, and his son Stephen. He is survived by children Philip (Carolyn), Patrick, Cathy Shelton, Michael (Diana), Mary Jo Kannon (Jack), and David (Liz); grandchildren Julian, Chris, Rachel, Monica, Brian, Andy, Michael, Travis, Marie, Claire, Joseph, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Sarah, Joshua, Caleb, and Simon; great-grandchildren Gabriel and Judah.

Harold's life was animated by a personal faith. He believed in hard work and in God's redemptive love. In his young-adult years he and Joan worked tirelessly to build racial harmony in their neighborhood and church. In addition to being a Knights of Columbus member, he was a member of St Maximilian Kolbe Parish, St Charles Borromeo, Couples for Christ, and Servants of the Spirit prayer group in Port Charlotte. He was also a member of the People of Praise charismatic group and several parishes in the South Bend region including St Anthony's. He worked in the steel industry in Indiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee, developing friendships around faith and family wherever he went. He found peace and inspiration in simple things like gardening, playing cards, and square dancing. Throughout his life, he reached out when others needed extra support, prayer, or a listening ear. As a leader of prayer groups in Florida during the last few years, he helped many find or renew their faith in God.
