Philip Emery Ehrhardt
Age 86, Brownsburg, died August 3, 2015. He was born May 26, 1929, in Gary, Indiana, to Nicholas and Gladys Ehrhardt of Hobart, Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ehrhardt; children, Philip Mark (Beverly) Ehrhardt, Kurt Ehrhardt, and Karen (Michael) Starkey; grandchildren, Kristin, Brandon, Vivien, Eyleen, Nicholas, and Ceciley; great-granddaughter, Arabella; and nephew Rick Ehrhardt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Dick Ehrhardt.
Our beloved Philip graduated from the University of Missouri in 1950 as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Upon graduation, Phil entered the armed services, attaining the rank of lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he married Barbara Distell; they were married for 64 wonderful years.
Following his military service, Phil worked in sales for Shell Oil Company and Proctor & Gamble. Subsequently, he discovered his true passion as an educator and completed both his Master's Degree and his Education Specialist Degree at Butler University. Phil served his community as a teacher and principal in the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township for 25 years. Along with his wife, Barbara, he had numerous interests including extensive travel, golf, and games of bridge with friends. Most significantly, Phil valued faith in God and family above all else.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Malachy Catholic Church on Friday, August 14th at 2:00 p.m. A brief visitation to celebrate his full and joyous life will precede the Mass at 1:00 p.m., also at the church. Contributions can be made in memory of Philip Ehrhardt to Special Olympics of Indiana or to St. Malachy Church.
