Betty Jean Mitchell (nee Harner) - Nana Our loving Nana, age 88, of Portage, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Thursday, December 14, 2017. Betty was a member of Deep River Church of Christ, Merrillville, IN.

She is survived by two daughters, Denise Taylor of Portage and Julie (Mark) Shimko of Prescott, AZ; two granddaughters, Kristin (Samuel) Bunton of LaPorte and Kayla Shimko of Prescott, AZ; two grandsons, Rob and Jeff Shimko of Munster; seven great-grandchildren, Alexys, Taylor, Matthew, Samuel, Daniel, Breeanna and Neila; two great-great-grandchildren, Athena and Steve; and a wealth of family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Forest Mitchell; her parents, Martin and Gladys Harner; brother, Martin Harner; sister, Dorothy Ellenberger; and twin grandchildren, Kyra and Ryan Shimko.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 12 noon, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Graceland Cemetary Chapel, 1505 E. Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, with Rev. Ron Buche officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the cemetery chapel. Burial will follow the service. Sunset Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
