Calvin D. Gafford, 81, passed away on May 14, 2011, at his home in the arms of his beloved wife, Valarie. Cal was born December 15, 1929, in Gary, Ind., to Joe Veria and Fines Dan Gafford. He served in the Air Force where he was stationed in Japan, which happened to be one of the highlights of his life. He was a machinist by trade, working for 40 years before retiring. Cal loved to garden, fish, and collect tools. He was known to all as a merry prankster.

He is survived by wife, Valarie Pickett; daughter, Kim Aoki; two step-daughters, Bee Alexander and Tori Polland; three grandchildren, John Polland, Adrienne Kious and Carolyn Hopkins; as well as his fur children, Nemo and Oliver. Cal's family would like to thank his devoted care givers, Susan Jeffers, Dori Alvarez, Debra; his hospice workers; as well as Dr. Christine Groskopp for her care and compassion during Cal's lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held on June 17, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, with a reception to follow at his home.
