Recommended 2d Trial Set April 12 For Patient In Slaying

STAR REPORT Valparaiso, Ind.

Trial on a first degree murder charge has been set for April 12 in Porter Circuit Court for Eugene K. Sulie, 33 years old, Hobart, in connection with a death 18 years ago. Sulie has been in mental hospitals in Indiana since he was indicted on June 2, 1950, in the stabbing death of Edward Wayne Owens of Hobart. THE PORTER Superior Court ruled that Sulie lacked the comprehension to under stand the proceedings against him and lacked the ability to defend himself in 1950. Last week through his attorneys, Sulie petitioned the court to set a trial date for him. He is being represented by Indianapolis attorneys Ferdinand Samper and Forrest Bowman Jr. In his petition, Sulie claims he has regained his sanity and Is competent to stand trial. He was 20 years old wben Owens was stabbed to death on May 18,1950. Recently Sulie has been confined In the maximum security section of the Dr. Norman M. Beatty Memorial Hospital at Westville.
