Joseph C. Hecht, Jr., age 90, of Hobart, IN, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023.

Joseph was born on November 13, 1932 in Valparaiso, IN to the late Joseph, Sr. and Agnes (nee Modrowski) Hecht.  He was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1951 [sic].  Joseph worked in the machine shop at US Steel for 14 years.  Afterward, he joined the Gary Police Department and retired after 20 years of service.  After his retirement, Joseph worked as a security guard with local banks for almost 20 years.  Joseph was an Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany for a short time.  He was a devout member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.  He was an avid Notre Dame football fan.

Joseph is survived by his numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Joseph is preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, June; parents: Joseph, Sr. and Agnes; siblings: Norbert Hecht, Arthur (Donna) Hecht, Lawrence (Geri) Hecht, Elaine (George) Baker, and Sylvia (Robert) Lowry; and his nephews: Timothy Hecht and Bob Lowry.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 P.M.  Prayers will be held at Rees Hobart Chapel on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 9:30 A.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (3530 Illinois St, New Chicago).  At Rest, Calvary Cemetery.
