Gloria Helene Nordyke, 86, of Wolcott, widow of Robert Nordyke, died October 8 after a short illness. She was born in 1926 to Julius and Louise (Sacha) Brahst in Hobart. Gloria was a member of the Chi Omega sorority at Indiana University. After graduation, she was a copywriter for Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago before her marriage to Robert in 1950. The two were first introduced at Indiana Beach. One of Gloria's passions was art. She spent many summers painting landscapes and still-lifes at Fountain Park Chautauqua. She was a docent and member of the Lafayette Museum of Art, and taught the Art Smart program in area public schools. Gloria was an avid reader and spent time in her garden and on art-lover travels to museums throughout the world. Her devotion to art, gardening, and travel was imprinted on her family.

She is survived by three children, Cynthia Basham (husband: Fred) of Monticello, Robert Nordyke (wife: Ninez Ponce) of California, John Nordyke (wife: Colleen Wagner) of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Steve and Jennifer Gauger, Alexandra and Malaya Nordyke, and Natalie and Chloe Nordyke; and two great-grandchildren, Susha Karchenko and Michelle Cool.
