OBITUARY FROM THE COMMERCIAL NEWS OBITUARIES WEBSITE:

James Charles Dinsmore, 92, of Williamsburg, VA died August 15, 2021.

He was born August 26, 1928, in Gary, Indiana, the son of Charles Leroy and Edythe Anna (Boger) Dinsmore. He married Roberta Jean Harris of Junction City, Kansas on September 6, 1950, in Hobart, Indiana. They started their married life in Lawrence, Kansas, where he was a student at the University. After graduation they lived in Missouri and Iowa before returning to Indiana to continue his teaching career.

He was a teacher and coach in Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois for forty years, his last twelve years in District 118 in Danville, Illinois. He started at Northeast Elementary as a physical education teacher and went on to Edison and Liberty Elementary Schools. This followed a very active coaching career at Turkey Run High School, Marshall, Indiana (football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and wrestling), Merrillville Junior High and High School, Merrillville, Indiana. (Jr. High and High School football, Jr. High basketball, track, and cross country) as well as teaching and coaching in four high schools in Iowa and Missouri.

His interest in athletics started in his early school years and was fulfilled at Hobart High School, Hobart, Indiana, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, track, and cross-country going to sectionals, regionals, and state in track and cross-country. He accepted a track scholarship to the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, where he won many honors (won the AAU 440-yard dash as a freshman, won half-mile and mile races and various relays and medleys at Drake University Relays, Kansas University Relays and Texas University Relays over his career).
He always felt that he had the best job in the world, working with young people and using his athletic ability. He enjoyed working with children and still has contact with many of his previous students.

He is survived by his second wife, Wanda Piechnik of North Fort Myers, Florida, children: Sandra Lee (Steven) Ross of Williamsburg, Virginia, Lorraine Kathlene (Thomas) Tatum of Leavenworth, Washington, James Scott Dinsmore of Irving, Texas, Kurt Allen (Jenifer) Dinsmore of Covington, Indiana, and Steven Win (Maria) Dinsmore of Hendersonville, Tennessee; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Richard Dinsmore of Fullerton, California, and David (Patricia) Dinsmore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and sister Judy Riley of Buena Vista, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roberta, his parents, brother Donald Dinsmore, sisters Linda Morgan and Phyllis Kuznicki and son Robert Dinsmore.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren but could never spend enough time with them since they were located all over the United States and at various times three families were in England and Germany. In more recent years he has spent more of his time enjoying his retirement to its fullest.

A family graveside service is being planned for a later date.
