Fred Fasel, 81 of Hebron and formerly of Hobart passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010. He was born on January 16, 1929 in Hobart to Fred and Mildred (Lute) Fasel. Fred was the baker and co-owner of Fasel's Rustic Inn "Pizza and Bakery," Valparaiso with his brother, Bob. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in the Chemical Division in Korea. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, a Life Time Member of the American Legion Post 94 and the VFW Post 988 both of Valparaiso. In January of 1970, he was honored by the Valparaiso University Fraternities for his contributions to student life in Valparaiso. Fred was a beloved husband and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved gardening, cards, fishing, football, baseball, but most importantly his family always came first.
On November 28, 1953 in Hobart, Fred married Lorene Fulton who survives along their 5 children, Darrell (Karen) Fasel, Eileen (Frank) Briggs, Dan (Donna) Fasel, Elaine Fasel, and Evelyn (Mike) Pedri; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sister, Kathy (Gary) McKinney; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Duane; parents; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 27th at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church 1700 N. Monticello Park Dr, Valparaiso with Rev. Steve Bongard officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Donor's Choice.
