Marie G. Silich (nee Iwan), age 96, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Valparaiso.
Marie was born on August 2, 1929, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bugay) Iwan. She was a proud graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1948. On May 26, 1951, she married the love of her life, Victor Silich, in Glen Park, Indiana. They shared many devoted years together until his passing in 2013.
Marie dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker and also worked for a time at Montgomery Ward. She was a faithful and active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where she shared her love of music as a member of the church choir. Marie also enjoyed nature and was a member of the Dunes–Calumet Audubon Society.
She is survived by her three daughters, Magdalene Doucette, Arlene (David) Reed, and Christine (Michael) Rogewitz; five grandchildren, David, Adam, Mark, Michael, and Jason; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Victor, and brother Joseph (Ann) Iwan Jr. and twin sister Ann (Bernard) Ruzga.
Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of DeMotte, with Father Michael McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Resurrection, DeMotte.
