Laura Irene Kinsman Wanger of Shepherdstown passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on October 26, 2022. She was born on June 23, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Arthur and Irene (Grandpre) Kinsman.

She graduated from Roseland Community Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, in 1955. In 1958, she joined the United States Navy as a lieutenant. Her nursing career continued in the Navy for 3 years. Her service to her country was one of her greatest sources of pride. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She went on to earn her Masters in Nursing, with a concentration in gerontology, from George Mason University in 1985. She finished her career in nursing at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg as a clinical specialist. She led an ecumenical Christian life and was known to attend services for up to three different denominations in a weekend.

She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Laura Hale (Bret), Beth Yates (Joe), and Tula Mason (Angi). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Captain Bret Hale, Jr., USAF; John Brandon Mason, MD; Sarah DeLawder; and Samantha, Sydney, Richard, and Alex Yates. And she was blessed to have seven great-grandchildren: Gemma, Everett, Vera, Jessa, Sophia, Madison, and Chanel (Coco). She is also survived by her niece, Irene Burt; her nephew, Bill Cox; and too many friends to name. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Cox, and her brother, William Kinsman.

In keeping with Laura's spirit of ecumenism and her love of God's creation, a service will be held on the grounds of St. Agnes Catholic Church (200 S Duke Street, Shepherdstown) on Saturday, November 5 at 3 p.m. with Reverend Karen Erskine-Valentine, of St. Peter's Lutheran church, officiating.

There will be a reception preceding the service beginning at 1 p.m. to share stories along with some light refreshments in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to one of the causes that was near and dear to Laura's heart. She was particularly passionate about educational opportunities for women, since her own education opened so many doors for her. Laura also cared deeply about rescue animals and had many throughout her life that she loved dearly and spoiled rotten.
