Joseph Vidal entered eternal peace, surrounded by his loving family, on January 16, 2012. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Lou last year.

Joseph was born in Spain on December 24, 1928. His family came to America in 1939 and he began his educational journey. Joseph devoted his professional life to teaching young people. After graduating from Indiana State University, and receiving a master's degree, he began teaching in Indiana. Joseph had a unique gift for finding students who were less interested in school and encouraging them to challenge themselves and reach further. His belief in his students' abilities helped to change many of their lives. He taught at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, CA for 27 years. Joseph was a model of quiet strength, dignity, and will, setting an example for his children, students, and those whose lives he touched. He was devoted to education and lifelong learning. Joseph was a loyal and kind friend. He was very involved in his church, serving as a Eucharistic minister. He loved gardening, walking, the arts, and traveling to many new places throughout the world with his cherished wife, Mary Lou. Joseph proudly served his country during time of war, being stationed in Korea with the United States Army.

Joseph is survived by his four children: Kevin Vidal and his wife, Michelle of Los Osos, CA; Kathleen Hebert and her husband, Bradley of Walnut Creek, CA; Linda Vidal and her husband, Steve Kopetsky of Corte Madera, CA; and Michael Vidal of Simi Valley, CA. He also leaves behind his sister, Pilar Taylor and her husband John of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as cousins Al Vidal and his wife Marge of Merrillville, IN and cousins, Evelyn and Luis Vidal of Crown Point, IN.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 13900 Church Pl. (inside Leisure World) Seal Beach, CA, on Monday, January 23 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, a military ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Staging Area 6, Riverside National Cemetery, Van Buren Ave. in Riverside, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.
