When Walter Zander was born in 1928, in Indiana, United States, his father, Paul Joseph Zander, was 34 and his mother, Lydia Lewin, was 31. He lived in Hobart Township, Lake, Indiana, United States for about 10 years. He died on 24 February 2007, at the age of 79.

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, FEBRUARY 26, 2007:

 WALTER FLYNN ZANDER Ft. Myers, Florida Age 79 passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007. Walter was born in Hobart, Indiana and graduated from Hobart High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from Michigan State with a DVM and founded the Westchester Animal Hospital in Chesterton, Indiana where he served until 1970. Since 1978 he made his home in Ft. Myers, Florida. Throughout his life, Walter's kind and gentle nature and his generous heart touched many. He is loved dearly and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Walter is survived by his sister, Marian Scarbach; his brother, Warren Zander; Paul and Ruth Zander, his brother and sister-in-law; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia and Paul Zander and his sister, Jean Davis.

Upon Walter's request, there will not be a service. Memorials in his name may be directed to either: Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or Greyhound Adoption Kennel, 11551 Deal Road, North Ft. Myers, FL 33719.
