Vera Jean Hutchinson, 91, of Kimball, Neb., died Oct. 23 at the Kimball County Manor in Kimball.
She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Hobart, Ind., a daughter to Lawrence and Pearl Mulligan. Vera attended and graduated high school in Indiana. She was very involved with her church, and they assisted her to go to college in Nampa, Idaho.
While attending school at Nampa, she met and married Darrold Hutchinson in 1948.
She served in the U.S. Army as a nurse during World War II and was very instrumental in putting together hand grenades. She spent many years working in VA hospitals and nursing homes.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Golden Prairie Baptist Church in Burns.
She enjoyed her many travels with the military. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, gardening, flowers and cooking.
She is survived by sons, Jerry Hutchinson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ron Hutchinson of Cheyenne and Darrold Hutchinson of Havre, Mont.; daughters, Sharon Bain and Shirley Bastian, both of Burns; brother, Don Mulligan of Indiana; sisters, Betty Tolliver and Lorraine Powers, both of Bicknell, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrold Hutchinson in 1993; parents, Lawrence and Pearl Mulligan; brothers, Jim and Harry Mulligan; sister, Dorothy Mulligan and a granddaughter.
