OBITUARY INFORMATION FROM LAFAYETTE JOURNAL & COURIER:
Richard Warren Traeger, Sr., 73, died early Monday [Sept. 12, 1994] in his Lafayette home. Born June 6,1921, at Hobart, IN, he was a 1940 graduate of Hobart High School, had lived in Lafayette since 1952. On Aug. 22, 1942, he married Mariolis Miller, who survives.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a sergeant in the 100th division, going overseas on D-Day. He also served as house sergeant for Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Sir Winston Churchill and King George VI, and was a personal bodyguard for Gen. Kean, Gen. Hodges and several other dignitaries
Mr. Traeger was maintenance supervisor at Lafayette Home Hospital, before retiring eight years ago. He was a horticulturist craftsman, growing roses for 25 1/2 years at Clark Floral Co. He was a memer of Congress Street United Methoidst Church, United Methodist Men, the church choir, American Legion Post 11, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1154, and Moose Lodge 1572. He was also Fairfield 26 precinct committeeman for the Repulican party, a Red Coat volunteer at Lafayette Home Hospital, and was active in Boy Scouting. He portrayed Santa Claus for many years at various functions.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Richard W. "Dick" Traeger, Jr. and Terry A. Traeger, both of Lafayette; four daughters, Sarah Neal of Nashotah, WI, Cathy Trimble of Fishers, IN, Kelly Corbin of Indianapolis and Kimberly Willis of Lafayette; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
