Henry Emden Rippe, age 95 of Hobart, passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2012.
He was born November 12, 1916, in Hammond, IN to William and Lillian (Fandrei) Rippe , who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of 69 years; sister Edna; and 4 children Barry Rippe of Hobart, David (Sharon) Rippe of Roswell, GA, James (Wynell) Rippe of Roswell, GA and Debbie Bianchi of Hobart; 7 grandchildren Scott (Nikki) Rippe, Trisha (Amul) Ganger, James (Kori) Rippe, Jr., Mariah Rippe, Travis Rippe, Trevor Bianchi and Garrett Bianchi; and seven great-grandchildren and may nieces, nephews, friends and good neighbors. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Harold, Roland and William and sister Trudy Lewzader.

Emden retired from the Hobart Post Office with 37 years of service of which 18 years were as Postmaster, being appointed by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served as a DI in World War II. Emden was a member of the Lions Club, Hobart Marine Corps League and National Postmasters of the United States. He was instrumental in forming the Hobart Titans Hockey Team in 1967 and served as coach and sports reporter. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hobart Men's Club, Couples Club and Trinity Hobart Dartball Team. He served as Chairman of the building committee for the present church on Luther Drive. His life was devoted to his family and brought special joy to all who met him. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, IN on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 12 p.m. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Hobart Food Pantry will be appreciated.
