Cynthia Rose Liechty, (Cyndi), age 74, of Hobart, IN went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 13, 2022, after a 32 month battle with pancreatic cancer.  She was born in Warren, OH on March 20,1948 to the late Kelcel and Lois (Reger) Zickefoose. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marsha Maddux in 2020.

Cyndi is survived by her husband of 52 years Dan Liechty of Hobart; son Kenneth (Megan) Liechty of West Lafayette; daughter, Carrie (Newlyn) Erratt of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren, Alexis Liechty, Hailey Liechty, and Micah Liechty.  She is also survived by brother-in-law, Pete Liechty and his wife Gail of Valparaiso, IN; sister-in-law, Gretchen Ashton and her husband Bill of Tipton, IN; sister-in-law Sarah Liechty of Liss, England; and many nieces and nephews, the off-spring of the above. She is also survived by her sister’s daughter, Rebecca Wilson of Evensville, TN. She was loved by many, and will be remembered as a loving, caring, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend.

In September of 1966 she met Dan during Freshman Orientation at Cedarville College.  This began a 56 year friendship. They were married on August 8, 1970 in Warren, OH. Cyndi earned a degree in Elementary Education from Cedarville College in 1970 and a Masters Degree from Indiana State University in 1974.  She taught 3rd grade at Foreman Elementary School in Hobart for 8 years.  She graduated to “Stay at Home Mom” with the birth of her son Kenneth Paul in 1978, and then in 1980 with the birth of her daughter Carrie Elizabeth.   She returned to the classroom part-time in the mid 1980’s.  She started a permanent full-time teaching job in 1995 at Feiler Elementary School in Merrillville.  She taught several different grade levels for 15 years with the last several being in third grade, retiring in 2010.

She was a member of Liberty Bible Church for over 42 years. She served at various times as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Ladies Bible Study leader, and child care worker for Ladies Bible Study and MOPS. For over 15+ years she worked every Sunday morning in the infant nursery.  She called this her “Grandma Fix,” before she had grandchildren of her own. Cyndi loved working in the nursery and being the smiling face receiving and loving these children from sometimes reluctant parents, helping them feel safe and at ease.  She retired from this in 2019 because of her illness.  She also enjoyed embroidery, cooking, watching cooking shows, traveling, doing puzzles, playing games (especially with her grandchildren), and reading.  She especially loved reading!  In 1991 she started recording each book she read. The last book she recorded was number 2,316.
