JEREMY “JER” NOLAN POEGEL, age 46, of Canton, MI, and formerly of Hobart, died on May 26, 2022.
Jeremy was born to Catherine and the late Alan Poegel on July 20, 1975 in Blue Island, IL. His family later moved to Indiana. There he graduated from Hobart High School in 1993 and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1997. He moved to Canton, Michigan and began working for Okada Corporation and then Star Automation, Inc.
Jeremy was a steady, reliable, helpful person who filled many rolls in his lifetime. He was a teasing but supportive brother to three sisters, a loyal godson, a praying godfather, a super fun uncle to 7 nieces and nephews, a trustworthy friend to many and a wonderful son.
In Michigan, he was an integral part of his community. He was a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as elder and president. He played alto saxophone in the Plymouth-Canton Community Band and often participated in basketball games. After, in between, and all around these activities, Jeremy spent his time fishing, fishing and fishing some more! We know he is at peace with his Savior in heaven – probably fishing in the river of life! We all love him immensely and will miss him incredibly.
He is survived by his mother, Catherine “Cathy” Poegel of Hobart, IN; 3 sisters, Valerie (Grant) McBride of Hobart, Natalie (Vincent) Beard of Norfolk, VA, and Stephanie (John) Eyer of Whitefish Bay, WI; 7 nieces and nephews, Abigail, Evan and Tristan McBride, Isabella and Jameson Beard, Eloise and Nathaniel Eyer; aunts and uncles, Craig (Loraine) Poegel, Michael (Judy) Meilahn, Margaret Meilahn, Deborah Meilahn, Janet (John) Koncki, and Donna Meilahn; 2 cousins, Chad (Cindy) Poegel and Lauren Koncki; other loving family and friends.
Jeremy was also preceded in death by his cousin, Stephen Meilahn.

A funeral service for Jeremy will be Monday, June 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, www.reesfuneralhomes.com.

There will be a Celebration of Life memorial visitation and service beginning at 3 p.m., followed by fellowship and a meal, all at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 46250 Ann Arbor Rd. W., Plymouth, MI 48170.
