Loma Geyer (Davies Silcott)

OBITUARY FROM KIRK FUNERAL HOME (RAPID CITY, SD) WEBSITE:

Loma Geyer Davies Silcott went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2022. Loma was born on July 14, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Fred Harry and May Belle (Perry) Geyer.

Loma was an American freelance writer, and an English educator. Loma received a Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University in 1970 and a Master of Science from Purdue University in 1975.

With her education, she became a legal secretary for Gavit and Richardson, in Gary, Indiana from 1954-1958. From 1970-1987, Loma was an English teacher for Hobart (Indiana) High School.  In 1995, Loma began teaching as an associate professor at the Oglala Lakota Indian College in Rapid City & Kyle, South Dakota, and at the National American University from 2007—2008.  On top of all that, she was a successful freelance writer since 1975 and the author of Nuts & Bolts Writer’s Manual copyright 1991 and 1993.

Loma Geyer Davies Silcott has been listed as a notable writer and language educator by Marquis Who's Who. Loma was a Member of the National Writers Association in the Black Hills Christian Writers Group and served as their leader.  Her interests were sewing, knitting, quilting, reading, piano and organization.

Loma married Robert Eugene Davies on September 5, 1954. They had four children: Kathleen, Daniel, Joel, and John.  Robert Davies, passed away in November of 1982.

Loma married Ralph R Silcott on January 8, 1994. She then became a help mate serving the Lord with Ralph who was the pastor of Rapid Valley Faith Baptist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota.  Together they traveled to Israel, Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Holland, Scotland, Canada, England, Italy, Rome, Greece, Turkey, and Africa.

Loma is survived by her husband, Ralph; children Kathleen Pulley, Daniel Davies, and Joel Davies; two stepchildren Timothy Ray Silcott and Shirley Kay Johnson and several grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10am Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Kirk Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date.
