Angelo "Bruce" Brucato

Angelo G. "Bruce" Brucato, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Ignazio and Marianna (Follone) Brucato.

Bruce, as he was known to family and friends, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He then attended Perdue University in West Lafayette, IN, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. While at Purdue, he served as the student manager for Universities football team. Bruce later earned a Master's Degree in Education at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. During World War II he served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant and rifle squad leader with Company B, 302nd Infantry Regiment from December 15, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 1, 1945. He was involved in the campaigns of Northern France and Rhineland and wounded in action in March 1945. Bruce was awarded a Purple Heart, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with two service stars and Good Conduct Medal.

Bruce worked as an elementary teacher in Hobart, Indiana and after returning to Niagara Falls for the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District, and retired from teaching in 1981. During 1967-1968, Bruce enjoyed a sabbatical leave at which time he traveled and visited schools in Asia, Africa and Europe. He was very active in community and church affairs in Niagara Falls and later in Mobile, Alabama. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls for many years, and their Holy Name Society where he had served as president. Bruce worked as a van driver at Cathedral Place Apartments and as a volunteer at Palmer Pillans School, the Book Nook at Spring Hill College and at WHIL-FM reading service. He was also active in veteran's affairs, particularly those associated with the 94th Infantry Division Association. Bruce's hobbies included traveling, photography and baseball.

Mr. Brucato was predeceased by his wife of twenty-five years, Mary Alice (Bunch) Levin Brucato, whom he married at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile, AL. He is survived by two sisters, Josephine (Gennaro "Tom") Minervino of Niagara Falls, NY and Janet (late Edward) Weisse) of Oshkosh, WI; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother, Paul (Pamela of Lewiston, NY) Brucato; and two sisters, Pasqualina (Sam of Lewiston, NY) Collura and Mary (Joseph of Niagara Falls, NY) Lepiano.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 29th from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 30th at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Military Honors concluding.
