Linda Guss Durbin (Teacher)

Linda E. Durbin, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at St. Maryís Health Center, Blue Springs, Mo. Linda was born in Anderson, Ind., May 18, 1942. She was the first child of John Lewis and Edith Fern Guss.

After graduating from Anderson High School in 1960, she graduated from Ball State Teacherís College (now Ball State University), Muncie, Ind., in 1964 with a degree in education. She taught in schools in Montpelier and Hobart, Ind., and in the Kansas City (Missouri) Public Schools. She and her husband attended Pittman Road Church of God in Kansas City from their marriage until they moved to Jefferson City in 2000. Linda served as the child care director for Wee Care Day Care at Pittman Road. In later years, she worked in retail sales primarily for sewing machines and related sewing merchandise. She was an accomplished seamstress for clothing, quilts and embroidery. Linda was a member of River City Quilt Guild.

Linda married David Durbin in Kansas City on August 7, 1971. Since moving to Jefferson City, they attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she served, at various times, as deacon, lay minister and wedding coordinator. She is survived by: her husband; their two daughters, Caroline Hill of Odessa, Mo., and Stephanie Durbin of Jefferson City; and three grandchildren, Addison and Jaxon Hill and Alice Durbin; as well as two sisters, Sharon Poe, University City, Mo., and Donna Guss, Greenwood, Mo.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Jefferson City, on Wednesday, July 8, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation preceding at Noon. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
