Dorothy Mae Haussman was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully at her home on May 3rd, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born to William and Mable Ehrhardt on February 16th, 1935. She graduated from Valparaiso High School where she was the Homecoming Queen. She then attended Indiana University where she was a member of the AOPi sorority and earned her degree in education. She later earned her Master’s Degree from Purdue University. It was at IU where she met her husband of 63 years, Roy (Fritz) Haussman. Together they had 3 children: Dan, Kelly and Eric.

Dorothy taught elementary school in Florida, Gary and Hobart for the first part of her career. She was the Library and Media Director at Hobart High School for the second part of her career.

Dorothy loved her family farm where she enjoyed her horses, dogs, cats, sheep and chickens. Every summer she looked forward to growing a bountiful garden and sharing the produce with family and friends. One of her lifelong passions was her arts and crafts. She had a ceramics studio on the farm where she and her dear friend created beautiful pieces of artwork. There was also a loom in the family room where she enjoyed her passion of weaving. Upon retirement, Dorothy and Fritz spent their winters at their home in Longboat Key, Florida. She enjoyed spending time at the beach with her very special “sunshine friends”. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents William and Mable Ehrhardt and her dear sister Marian Ehrhardt Bertsch.

She is survived by her husband Roy (Fritz) Haussman; her children: Dan (Jessie) Haussman, Kelly Haussman, and Eric (Sharon) Haussman; grandchildren: Dana (Harrison) Runyon, Amanda (Jason) Haussman, Logan (Chris) Haussman, and Jake Haussman and several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
