OBITUARY INFORMATION FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Kenneth “Marty” DeYoung, age 26, of Lake Station was born in Crown Point, Indiana on February 24, 1998, and passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024.  Kenneth was a 2017 graduate of Hobart High School, where he was involved in band and ROTC.  Kenneth started his professional career by earning his CDL and driving over the road for Maverick Trucking and then went on to become a member of the Teamsters Local #142 in Gary, Indiana.  Kenneth worked alongside his father at Olson Construction, Inc. in Portage, Indiana for the past 2 years, never missing a day of work.  He loved driving a truck and learning how to haul different types of loads and heavy equipment.  Outside of work, Kenneth was always eager to learn new things – from splitting firewood with his dad and grandpa, to target shooting, learning how to do his own home improvements, and most recently, planting his first garden.  Kenneth also had a special love of gaming, particularly with his sister, Aubrey, and his nephew, Emmett.

Kenneth is survived by his parents, Stacy (Ty) Olin of Anniston, Alabama and Kenneth (Stacey) DeYoung of Rensselaer, Indiana; sister, Aubrey (James) Cunningham and nephews Emmett, Ryker and Cian of Anniston, Alabama; maternal grandmother, Tammy Douglas; paternal grandparents, Kenny DeYoung Jr.  and Jacqueline (Jim) Henry; paternal great-grandmother, Victoria Sohovich; stepbrothers, Tyler (Dani) Olin, Blake Olin and Ethan Riegle; aunts, Tracy (Mike) Slazyk, April (Stefan) Gottschalk & Crystal (Jack) DeHaven; uncles, Randy (Stacy) DeYoung, Kevin (Tina) DeYoung, and Clint (Jamie) Henry; and cousins, Torie Botts, Austin, Courtney, Ashlynn & Hunter DeYoung; and many other loving family members.
