Obituary for Pedro "Pete" Rodriguez

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Pedro “Pete” Rodriguez announce his passing on September 20, 2024.

Pete grew up in Hobart, Indiana, then resided in Miller for most of his life. Upon retirement he wintered in Estero, Florida and summered in Miller.

As with many Spaniards, Pete was a man with many passions. He was passionate about his wife, Judy, whom he loved so much, he married twice! His love of skiing with the Gary Ski Club, golfing with friends from Miller and Florida, watching sports, and auto racing. He was passionate about his family, friends, and Spanish heritage.

Pete graduated from Hobart High School and after his service in the Navy went on to graduate from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent most of his working life in electronics maintenance for the School City of Gary and as an electrician out of IBEW Local Union 697.

He was passionate about both the nation of his birth and the nation of his ancestors. He visited the area of Spain where his ancestors came from and was amazed, they still lived along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, but now with modern appliances of a modern house but still using the original hillside setting. Pete was a proud Navy veteran who performed electronic maintenance servicing the airborne fleet out of Rota, Spain. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 279, Moose Lodge in Chesterton, and Bonita Springs, Florida, and Issac Walton League of Portage.

Pete was known as a friendly person and his Indiana and Florida friends were the joy of his life.

Pete is preceded in death by his father; Pedro Rodriguez Sr., his mother; Rosa Rodriguez (Capparos), his stepfather; Juan Capparos, and his brother; Frank.

Survived by his wife; Judy Jewell Rodriguez, brother; Raymond (Anita) Rodriguez, many nieces and nephews, Stuart (Lynn) Jewell, brother-in-law, John (Tony) Rodriguez, nephew, with whom he was very close.
