OBITUARY PUBLISHED ON LEGACY.COM BY STEINKE FUNERAL HOME (RENSSELAER, IN), NOVEMBER 17, 2024:
On November 9th, 2024, Allen Sell (Al) was called home by his Mighty Lord and Savior. The Lord carried him home peacefully and comfortably while being surrounded by his cherished loved ones in his Rensselaer, IN home at the age of 69.
Allen Dale Sell was born in Gary, IN on June 11th, 1955, to his parents Chester Keith Sell and Mary Kathryn Decker Sell.
He attended Hobart High School graduating with his class in 1973. Soon after graduation, Allen began the Ironworkers Local #395 apprenticeship program and was employed as an Ironworker for 12 years.
On November 20th, 1976, Allen married the love of his life and very best friend, Connie Kelly Sell. They had 3 beautiful children together: Michael Allen Sell, Eric Daniel Sell and Aimee Marie (Sell) Lilly. Allen and Connie were blessed with just shy of 48 wonderful years of marriage.
Allen and Connie moved their family from Hobart, IN to the small town of DeMotte, IN in 1985 and created a safe haven for them to grow up. Preferring his children to attend Christian school and his wife to be a constant presence at home with the children as they grew, Allen worked 2 full time jobs for 7 years to ensure his family was well provided for. Allen retired in 2021 at the age of 66 from Franciscan Health in Crown Point, IN where he had been employed as Plant Operator for 36 years.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Chester K. Sell and his mother, Mary K. Sell Tuttle.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Sell and their 3 children: Michael Sell, Eric Sell (Jillian) and Aimee Lilly (Stephen). Also surviving is his brother Robert Sell (Sandra), and sisters Penny Sell Taylor (Robert) and Pam Sell Broadway (Joe), as well as his four amazing grandsons: Jordan Owens, Benjamin Sell, Mechiah Pullins and Jacob Sell.
Al prided himself in hard work and walking strong with the Lord. He enjoyed vacationing and gathering together with his family and friends. Some of his favorite hobbies were golfing, bowling, kayaking, fishing, cornhole, gardening, playing on a softball team with his grandson, Jordan and tending to his beautiful homestead.
Allen was a member of Brookside Church in Rensselaer, IN. He enjoyed working side by side with his beloved church family at the Brookside Church Food Pantry, helping to serve those in need in the community. He also loved teaching the word of God to the children in his Sunday school class.
To know Al was to love him. He had a way of lighting up every room he entered. Always full of joy, his laughter was contagious, his presence was power and his words filled with wisdom. Allen's voice carried over everyone else's, yet he didn't have to speak a word for you to know he was present. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone that may be in need.
As a husband, father and grandfather, he held an exceptional role in the lives of all of those he held dear. Allen was a shining example of a man of unwavering faith in God, integrity, loyalty and perseverance. He shared words of wisdom gained through experience, unconditional love, support, compassion, encouragement and protection to his loved ones at all times. As difficult as it was to say goodbye, we know that Allen is experiencing the Glory and Majesty of God right now and we will all be forever thankful for the gift of journeying through life with such a magnificent man.
Your beautiful Spirit will be with us always, Papa.
