Myron E. “Buddy” Hanes
Age 67, of Portage passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 3, 1957, to the late Myron E. Hanes Sr and Anne Marie (Nee Kopil) O’Connor. After retiring from Hobart Schools, where he worked diligently as a maintenance worker, Buddy pursued his passions and nurtured his relationships with family and friends. Furthermore, Buddy appreciated camping and was an enthusiastic fan of the Brickyard races. His remarkable amount of knowledge and resourcefulness earned him the distinction of being a ‘Jack of all trades.’ As a member of the Hobart Moose 783, Buddy previously held the position of Sergeant of Arms and was honored with the Blue Coat Award. He treasured his family and regarded his nieces and nephews with the same affection he would for his own children.
