Obituary for Loretta (Beldon) Hoevener
Loretta (Beldon) Hoevener, age 90, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 14, 2025, at Hoosier Health & Living, Brownstown.
Loretta was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown, where she held various church offices, including president of the Ladies Aid, traveling Lutherans group, and a member of the church prayer group and the Endowment Board. She was a previous member of Grace Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, where she also held various church offices, including president of the Women’s Group and Bible class. In addition, Loretta was a former member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Plainfield, where she also held various church offices.
Mrs. Hoevener graduated from Tampico High School in 1952, Evansville University in 1956, and she received a degree in arts and her master’s degree in science in 1966 from Indiana State University. She taught school for 31 ½ years, teaching at Plainfield, Hobart, and Indianapolis. The last 27 ½ years of her teaching career she spent teaching kindergarten, which was the love of her life. She was a member of Independents in college, served as president of the University of Evansville Alumni Indianapolis chapter, secretary of the Decatur Township Civic Group, and she was assistant principal for Decatur Township Summer School in Indianapolis. She also served as a board member of the Brownstown Library. Loretta donated many hours of her time at the Lutheran resale shop, preparing used items for resale to support Trinity Lutheran High School.
Mrs. Hoevener was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and teacher. She loved attending church, visiting with relatives and friends, cooking, and playing cards.
Born on July 5, 1934, in Tampico, Loretta was the daughter of Earl Roscoe and Cora May (Waskom) Beldon, both of whom preceded her in death. On August 6, 1955, at Tampico Baptist Church, she married Leon Arthur Hoevener, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 2018.
Survivors include one son, Craig Arthur (Teresa) Hoevener of Morgantown; one daughter, Debra Sue (Gary) Ward of Kokomo; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Loretta was also preceded in death by one son, Gregory Leon Hoevener; two grandsons: Shane Arthur Hoevener and Gregory Andrew Hoevener; six sisters: Anna Mae Turner, Jayne Clair Nierman, Yvonne Sue Griffith, June Carol Jones, Avah Lucille Hash, and Earline Alma Cunningham; and six brothers-in-law: Glen Cunningham, Harlan Nierman, Charles Griffith, Lonnie Hash, Archie Turner, and Ray Jones.
Funeral services for Loretta (Beldon) Hoevener will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Ryan Schneider officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown, or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
