Mark Spoon
April 7, 1952 — August 3, 2025
Robert Mark Spoon, age 73, of Elm Mott, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his residence.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Chaplain Monte Michael officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Mark was born on April 7, 1952, in Decatur, Illinois, to Charles and Cynthia (Retting) Spoon. His journey through life was marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family. After completing his education at Hobart High School, he proudly served in the United States National Guard from 1972 to 1978, achieving the rank of Specialist 5th Grade. He carried the discipline and camaraderie he developed during his service into his career as a carpenter, where he worked diligently and made an impact in the construction industry, primarily employed by Double EE Ranch in Axtell. Mark was a member of Antioch Church in Waco, where he found comfort and connection in the Shalom Life Group. He enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and often spent his afternoons fishing, bird watching, or listening to his favorite classic rock and contemporary Christian tunes. His generous spirit was evident in the way he worked hard and extended help to anyone in need. He shared a particularly close bond with his friend, Raymond Lucien, who affectionately designated him as the Mayor of Lucien Lane. Above all, Mark loved being a family man. He found joy and laughter in his life as a devoted father to his daughter, Amanda, and a proud grandfather to his grandson, William. He also had a special bond with his grand dog, Mr. Bates, who brought him countless moments of happiness.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Spoon; and sister, Gayle Spoon.
Survivors include his cherished daughter, Amanda Kaluza, of Elm Mott; grandson, William Kaluza and his father Jacob Kaluza of West; brother, Matthew Spoon and wife Sharon of Michigan City, Indiana; cousin, Gene (Nance) Williams and husband John of Grayling, Michigan; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Scholarship Fund for his grandson, William to attend St. Mary's School.
