Ron was a sports coach for Hobart Little League and Hobart Youth Basketball.
OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:
On February 16, 1943, Ronald Theodore Siwy took his first breath at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond. On March 24, 2025, he took his last breath. During the 82 years, 1 month, 1 week, and 1 day in between, he enriched the lives of everyone he met.
A longtime Hobart resident, Ron was a graduate of Hammond Technical and Vocational High School, a US Army veteran, and was employed at Inland Steel for 42 years. However, he is most synonymous with Hobart youth sports. He was a highly successful coach at every level of Hobart Little League and would periodically brag about a baserunning rule named in his honor, but basketball was the sport he truly loved. Ron served as President of Hobart Youth Basketball for almost 40 years. After coaching many years in the league, he would often be found manning the popcorn machine or spending time watching Mighty Mite games, which was an instructional division for the youngest players just learning the fundamentals of the sport that he referred to as “Basketball in its purest form – played for fun and the love of the game”.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anastasia Siwy of Hammond. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Bari (Finnegan); sons Patrick (Susan) Siwy of Irving, TX and Michael (Veronica) Siwy of Hebron, IN; granddaughters Emma, Katie, and Camille Siwy; step-grandsons Britton and Jack Cowan; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Monday, March 31, 2025, from 3-7 pm at Burns Funeral Home 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana 46342. Rev. Wayne Williams will officiate the funeral service Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11 am at Burns Funeral Home. www.BurnsFuneral.com
