In Memory

Edward (Ed) McColl - Class Of 1975

OBITUARY FROM ED'S WIFE DAWN:

Edward Bruce McColl

Born in Mercy Hospital, Gary, Indiana.  Preceded in death by parents Robert Bruce McColl, Jr., and Dorothy McColl from Hobart, Indiana. Edward McColl’s ancestry derived from Argyll and Bute council areas in Scotland. He was also preceded in death by his beloved fur babies, Mandy, Maggie, Asta, Hannah and his horse Viking, who he loved to have cocktails with.  Edward and his wife Dawn built an amazing life together in the Dallas, Texas area.

Also known to many as ‘Too Tall McColl’ or ‘Fast Eddie’, Ed hailed from Hobart, Indiana.  He graduated from Hobart High School in 1975, and attended Vincennes and Indiana University, majoring in Criminal Law.  He was owner of McColl’s Custom Painting, specializing in refurbishing stunning Texas historical home remodels and faux finishes.  In his spare time, he worked security for event concerts and enjoyed every minute of it.

Ed loved; waking up to his beautiful wife Dawn, his many friends, the Bears, Indy 500, his ranch and home, horses and dogs, playing pool, water sports, dancing, rock concerts, fast cars, vacation holidays, Hawaii, poker, Bud beer, and bowling. He spoke fondly of his many travels and wild experiences while living in Hawaii, Alaska, Houston, and Dallas Texas.  He was considered by many, without a doubt, a truly good friend.

For those who knew him, he was a character and prankster, smart and witty, larger than life, always running the show and taking the lead. He loved telling corny jokes.  In a crowd, his head towered above all, whistling for everyone’s attention. When ready to settle down and stop sowing his wild oats, he called upon Dawn to accompany him in Dallas, Texas.  He sent her a ‘one-way’ plane ticket so she could not change her mind and catch a return flight.  Directly after picking her up from the airport, he drove her to a run-down apartment complex, jumped out of the car and jokingly told her, ‘Come on out, this is where we live now baby’.  The first of many pranks to come. From that moment on together they had an ecstatic 37-year marriage.  The two became inseparable. You never knew what the next day would bring living with Ed.  His life was always a wild and fantastic voyage.

I know Ed is now back with his Hobart crew, playing billiards, poker, attending the ultimate rock concerts, Indy 500, the Bears games, and a lot of BS’ing.  I can still hear him say, this is just what the boys from Hobart do.

No one will ever make me laugh like Ed.  I will miss our dancing.  All the good in my life was because of you.  This was that once in a lifetime love.

Eternally yours,
Dawn
