OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, NOVEMBER 16, 2004:

HOWARD SCHOONOVER Age 63, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Portage Community Hospital. He was born September 20, 1941 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Roy and Dorothy (nee Hollenbaugh) Schoonover. He was a 1960 graduate of Hobart High School and was a retired welder for Nipsco Bailley Station. Howard was an avid fisherman, Golfer and motorcyclist. He was the former director of GWRRA, Chapter Q2 in Portage.

He is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 42 1/2 years, Barbara Cardwell Schoonover of Portage; 1 son, Michael Schoonover of Valparaiso; 1 daughter, Deborah (Dennis) Sobat of Portage; 2 grandchildren, Brittany and Brendan Gill of Portage; mother, Dorothy Schoonover of Portage; 1 brother, Thomas (Janet) Schoonover of Culleoka, Tennessee; and other loving family members and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheryl Schoonover Gill; his father, Roy Schoonover and sister, Nancy Schoonover Kiraly. Howard was a very special person to those who knew him and his family and friends will miss his smile and sense of humor.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 from 2 - 9 p.m. at the Real Life Community Church, 3134 Swanson Avenue, Portage, IN. 46468. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the Real Life Community Church with Pastor Duane Schmidt officiating. Interment in McCool Cemetery, Portage.
