Arthur J. Hecht - Class Of 1947

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, AUGUST 21, 2008

Arthur J. Hecht Sr., age 78 of Hobart passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008. He was born on October 17, 1929 in Gary, IN to the late Joseph and Agnes Hecht. He was a longtime Hobart resident graduating from Hobart High School in 1947. Arthur went on to serve his country in the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church and the Knights of Colombus St Thomas Council. Arthur retired from U.S. Steel where he worked in the machine shop. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching and wood working.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Donna Hecht (nee Harter) of Hobart, IN; four children: Kathleen (George) Novosel of Hudson, OH, Theresa "Teri" Canzoneri of Hobart, IN, Arthur (Kathy) Hecht Jr. of McHenry, IL and Laura (L.B.) McElwain of Hobart, IN; two brothers: Joseph Hecht Jr. of Hobart, IN and Lawrence Hecht of Valparaiso, IN; seven grandchildren: Benjamin, Jessica, and Matthew Novosel, Tony Canzoneri, Sarah, Arthur III "A.J." and Sophie Hecht; and good friends and neighbors, Sonia, Mike and daughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norbert Hecht; two sisters: Elaine Baker and Sylvia Lowry; and one son-in-law, Paul C. Schramm II.

Funeral services are Saturday, August 23, 2008 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to Assumption BVM Catholic Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Jon J. Plavcan officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
